Karl Marx Street (formerly Zabolotnaya Street) begins from Chernyshevsky Street, crosses Komsomolskaya Street, Dobrolyubov, Samoilo, Mudrov, Sammer, Gilyarovsky, Fryazinovskaya, Severnaya, Razina, Pugachev, and ends behind the intersection with Lesobirzha Street, on the bank of the Vologda River.

The street is named after the German philosopher, sociologist, economist, writer, political journalist, and public figure Karl Marx. The author of such works as "The Manifesto of the Communist Party" and "Capital".
The name of Karl Marx Street was given to the former Zabolotnaya Street on December 16, 1959. The name Zabolotnaya street came from the fact that on the right side of the street was an impassable swamp and the street itself was overgrown with willow shrubs, cowberries, and covered with a layer of moss. Construction started in the street in 1937, first a "Peasant's House" was built, and then the residential buildings of Zagotzern, regional consumer union, Koopinssoyuz, industrial cooperation, communications, livestock farms trust and several other enterprises were built. At the same time were built and private homes, consistently built industrial and commercial enterprises.

In 1956 along Zabolotnaya street (now Karl Marx street) on the place of impassable swamp at the initiative of pensioners' group Zarechny park was founded, which was renamed into Park of Labor Veterans by the decree of Vologda Regional Executive Committee on February, 17, 1965. On an area of 10 hectares, a number of perfect attractions for children and adults, built a summer stage, reading pavilion, dance floor and many other facilities for children of preschool and school age. The park administration is continuing to further improve the Veterans of Labor Park. In 2004 one of the first Maxi supermarkets was opened in Karl Marx street, in 2006 shopping center Apelsin was opened.

In 2009 a project of a large development in Razinsky Micro-district and Karl Marx Str. in Vologda was presented to journalists by city authorities. That same year the street began to be actively developed with 10 and 11-storey residential buildings.
In 2015, Karl Marx Street from Severnaya Street to Fryazinovskaya Street was overhauled and became a four-lane street. On August 25, 2015, public transportation was launched on the street in the Fryazinovo neighborhood.
