Babushkin Square is a station square in Vologda. Named in honor of the revolutionary Bolshevik Ivan Vasilievich Babushkin, a native of Vologda province.
Along the perimeter of the square are the railway station Vologda-1, bus station, Russian Post building. In the center of the square is landscaped area and parking area without markings.
Originally the square was called Privokzalnaya (Railway Station). During the revolution of 1905-1907 there were rallies on the square. Usually after each rally, the participants walked in an orderly fashion down Zhelvuntsovskaya Street (now Zosimovskaya Street) into town.
On June 26, 1934, a rally was held on the square, where thousands of residents welcomed the crew of the steamship "Chelyuskin".
In July 1955, a 45-apartment apartment building was completed on the square. In 1956-1957. renamed Schmidt Square, in memory of the deceased in September 1956, the mathematician and researcher O. Schmidt.
In the early 1960s, reconstruction of the station area began. Opposite the railway station on the place of the old buildings were built five-storey houses.
In 1970 a new bus station was built.
In January 1973 it was renamed Babushkin square, to the centenary of the revolutionary Bolshevik I.V. Babushkin. In 1987 the local authorities also erected a monument to I.V. Babushkin in the town.
