One of the best public spaces in Astrakhan's Leninsky District is the Student Garden between Savushkina and Tatishcheva Streets.
This park was laid out in the early 1970s. It became one of the favorite places for recreation of Astrakhan residents and always had an abundance of greenery. Local residents and students spent their leisure time here at all times of the year. The park is especially good in the fall, when the eye pleases with a variety of colors.
Eight years ago the park went through a global, as they said then, reconstruction. There was a new irrigation system and lighting, wooden sculptures... Now all these transformations look outdated. The territory seems to be taken care of, but not all park areas look well-maintained. The park alleys far from the center do not have any lawns, the bushes are not cut regularly, the fountain in front of the college has not been working for a long time. There are only four benches in the central alley. At the back of the park there is a place under the shady crowns of trees where you can relax, but not for long - there are no backs on the circular benches in the recess. This is where students gather for a smoke break.
There are four monuments in the park. The central avenue has a memorial to Russian soldiers who died in the first Chechen campaign: this year, for some reason, they decided not to plant flowers in the flowerbeds around it.
There are also monuments to literary and public figures Omar Khayam, Musa Jalil and Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
