Polyarnye Zori is a small town in the Murmansk region, located on the banks of the river Niva, 224 kilometers south of the regional center.
The area of the settlement is 3.6 square kilometers.
In 1968 a settlement for the builders of Kola Nuclear Power Plant was founded on the site of the present town.
At the end of 1973 by decision of the Murmansk Regional Executive Committee the settlement was transformed into a workers' town.
In the 1970s in the village were built House of Culture, a two-cell bridge with a regulating device, a shopping center, a post office, a cultural and sports complex, apartment buildings.
In 1980 a new telephone exchange for 1000 numbers was put into operation in the city.
In April 1991, by the decree of the authorities the workers' settlement Polarnye Zori received the status of a city.
In 2000, the construction of the Ice Palace for 600 spectators started in the town.
