Leningradskaya Street is the oldest street in Vologda. It originates from the river of Vologda's appearance - Lazy Ground. S. Peterburgskaya was named in the XVIII century after the formation of St. Petersburg.

At the beginning of the street, from the Vologda River there is a park of culture. Earlier this was a bishop's garden. His appearance dates back to the time of the XVIII century. In 1920 in this garden was organized by the park of transport workshops, now VPRVRZ.
Leningradskaya street was formerly called St. Peterburgskaya. In September 1914 it was changed and began to be called Petrogradskaya. After the October Socialist Revolution on September 19, 1925 in connection with the change of the city of Petrograd - the city became known as Leningrad, the street is called Leningradskaya.
The whole length of Leningradskaya Street from the Vologda River to the spillway is crossed by a series of streets:
Prospekt Pobedy - formerly called Gostinodvorskaya street

Clara Zetkin Street - formerly known as B. Blagoveshchenskaya Street
October Street - formerly called B. Dvoryanskaya Street
Kirov Street - formerly called M. Obukhovskaya Street
Chekhova - formerly called Gasilovskaya
3rd International Street - formerly Glinkovskaya Street.
Petersburg street was paved with cobblestones, flooded with water in wet weather, there were no gutters or sewers, the street was lit with kerosene lanterns.

The major part of the former St. Petersburg street were artisans, wealthy shop owners, lived non-resident merchants, most landlords had two or three houses.

Wooden residential houses, built at the turn of the last century and now Leningradskaya Ulitsa, have distinctive features.
The dominant type, as mentioned above, is a two-story house with two apartments. The front porch faces the street, not the courtyard, as in the mansions built at the beginning of the century, this porch together with the covered balcony above it is the main decorative element of the facade. Usually it is an annex, which also has stairs to the upper floor.

At the corner of Leningradskaya Ulitsa until 1964 there was a big wooden two-storied house (Karelkin's), which had housed in pre-revolutionary time the Vologda District Zemstvo Board, which was in charge of public education, public health services, road construction, insurance, statistics of households etc. in the district. The last chairman of the zemstvo was S.V. Vininsky, who since 1918 worked as a secretary of the provincial government committee.

Since 1918 the building housed school number 14 until 1964. The school burned down in 1964 because of an oversight. The site from the burned school is a witness to the historical events that took place here between 1917 and 1964. Meetings, rallies, and city council elections were held in the building. Further toward the center of the city through Leningradskaya Street, next to the boulevard planted in 1824, is the site occupied by the stadium of the Vologda Pedagogical Institute.
