Webcam online Ulyanovsk. Minaev Bridge

The word "bank" has a great meaning for Ulyanovsk residents: the mighty Volga divides the city in two, the Sviyaga River loops along Zasviyazhye, Leninsky and Zheleznodorozhny districts.
In the middle of the last century the problem of communication between Leninsky and Zaviyazhsky districts was particularly acute. In the 50s, the image of Ulyanovsk as an important industrial center was being rapidly formed. Ulyanovsk heavy machine tools plant, radiolamp plant, construction materials plant in Vyrypaevka began its work, the automobile plant mastered new capacities.

In parallel with the development of industries, infrastructure for their employees was created: the windows of hundreds of residential buildings were lit with a warm light behind the Sviyaga. Ulyanovsk was growing, and the issue of public transportation system development came to the fore.
By January 1954, the first streetcar rang in the city. It connected the streetcar depot on Radishchev Street with the old railroad station, but Zasviyazhye was still connected to the city center only by a wooden bridge on Ablukov Street.

It was decided to solve the problem by the "red day" of the Soviet calendar - November 7, 1955 (the 38th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution). It took about 5 thousand cubic meters of lumber, more than 600 tons of reinforcing iron, and a lot of cement to build the engineering structure.
By November 6, 1955 the bridge was finished. In the issue of Ulyanovskaya Pravda of that date there are the words of I. Dodonov, deputy chief of Sviyazhsky bridge construction: "...The builders are proud that they have kept their word and finished construction of the new bridge over Sviyaga by the 38th anniversary of the Great October Revolution.

The two-lane bridge with arched spans finally provided a reliable connection between Zaviyazhye and the city center. The new streetcar route - two - started rushing towards the plant's residents, and streams of cars started pouring in. It is noteworthy that its supports were concrete only on the outside, with an oak fumed inside.

For decades, the crossing coped with its tasks, but by the 90s there were more and more motorists, and traffic jams often formed on the two lanes of the "minayevsky" bridge. Therefore, city officials decided to reconstruct it for the first time.

By 1996 two more lanes were added on both sides of the old bridge, making a total of six automobile lanes: two in each direction for all types of cars and one more dedicated to buses. As a result, all three parts of the resulting structure are separate bridges, with the first one from the 50s hiding in the middle.

Now engineering structure is being reconstructed: the middle part, which is in pre-adverse condition, will be replaced completely, the side parts - overhauled.
The crossing on Minaeva Street has a complex and interesting fate. Like a symbol of different eras in the history of Ulyanovsk, it transforms in accordance with the times and always responds to the call of the constantly developing city and its residents.
