36th Guards Rifle Division, in honor of which the park is named, was formed in Kirzhach on the basis of the 9th Airborne Corps, manned by Komsomol volunteers from the Urals, Siberia, the Far East and the Central Asian republics. The division was sent to the defense of Stalingrad.
