Tehran is the capital and largest city of Iran and one of the largest cities in Asia. The administrative center of the eponymous ostan, the political, economic, transport, trade, financial and cultural center of the country. Tehran is located in the north of the country at the foot of the Elburs mountain range, 90 km south of the Caspian Sea coast. The city stretches for 40-50 km from west to east along the mountain slope. The northern districts of Tehran (Shemiran) are located at an altitude of up to 2000 m above sea level, and the southern suburbs (Rey, Sultanabad) are close to the territory of the rocky Kavir desert.
