Webcam Naples. View of the sea port of Beverello
Naples, like all seaside cities, has its marinas. The main one is the port of Beverello, which, among other things, is considered one of the largest among the Mediterranean countries.
The port of Beverello is enormous. Its entire infrastructure occupied about 1426000 m2 of land surface and 2660000 m2 of water space. The total length of the quay was 1,145 linear meters, and the depth of the port itself was up to 15 meters.
The appearance of the port in Naples dates back to the period of Greek colonization. In the IX century BC, a group of sailors from Rhodes reached this part of the coast, and in the VI- VII century BC, the Greek colony was founded on the Acropolis of Pizzofalcone. In 475 B.C. the inhabitants of Cum founded Naples (the new city) at the eastern end of the old settlement. From a military port of Greek and Roman times, the port of Naples gradually developed into a commercial port. During the reign of Charles I of Anjou, Molo expanded and acquired new buildings, and Naples became the most populous city. The fortification of the port and the construction of the warehouses continued under the rule of the Aragonese (15th century).
It is known that on September 27, 1818 from this wharf was launched the "Real Ferdando I", the first steamer in the Mediterranean Sea. After 1861 there was a period of decline for the port of Naples. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Molo Beverello began to gain weight again as a result of the efforts of Francesco Saverio Nitti and Admiral Augusto Witting. During the period of fascism, the city of Naples became the main port in the process of connecting Italy with the colonial territories. In 1932 the architect Bazzani designed new buildings, such as the port station.
After World War II, the port of Beverello became the final farewell for Italians leaving for America in search of their happiness.
