Leça da Palmeira is a district (freguesia) in Portugal, part of the district of Porto. It is part of the municipality of Matosinhos. It is part of the large urban agglomeration of Greater Porto. Under the old administrative division it was part of the province of Douro Litoral. It is part of the economic and statistical sub-region of Greater Porto, which is part of the Northern Region. The population is 17,215 as of 2001. It occupies an area of 5.97 km².
The Archangel Michael (port. S. Miguel Arcanjo antes S. Miguel de Moroca) is considered the patron saint of the area.
It has a rich cultural heritage, namely the Fort of Lesa da Palmeira, the Piscinas de Marés (Pool on the Beach) designed by the famous architect Siza Vieira, the Boa Nova Tea House (also designed by Siza Vieira), the Quinta da Conceição Municipal Park (Fernando Tavora) and other religious monuments such as the churches of Corpo Santo, Santana and Boa Nova.
There is the international seaport of Leixões, the second largest in the country; Petrogal and the oil refinery. In sports, the district has the soccer club Leça FC and the basketball club Grupo Desportivo de Basquete de Leça.
