Kazimierz Dolny (Kazimierz Dolny) is located in the Lublin Highlands on the eastern bank of the Vistula River, a few kilometers from Pulawa and almost 50 km from Lublin. The areas surrounding Kazimierz Dolny have been protected since 1979, over time they have been transformed into a landscape park, which further enhances the attractiveness of the city.
The history of Kazimierz Dolny goes back to the twelfth century, but the period of its intensive development began in the fourteenth, during the reign of Kazimierz the Great. The town was on the main trade route and the grain trade allowed the locals to accumulate great wealth. Most of the development of the city took place in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when important monuments were built and a port was also built.
At the end of the 19th century the city began to develop as a tourist center. Tourists were followed by artists and writers and this tendency continued even in the interwar period.
The authorities of the Polish People's Republic were aware of the landscape and historical values of the city, so it was carefully restored at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s and preserved its Renaissance urban plan and appearance. In 1994, President Lech Walesa granted the town the status of a historical monument, thus emphasizing the contribution of its cultural heritage to Polish culture. The popularity of the town grew, and Kazimierz Dolny became a summer resort.
In addition to tourism, Kazimierz is known for its ties to the arts and for being an oasis of artists. Many artists have their galleries here, as well as art studios in the open air. The city has a huge number of historic buildings and places accessible to visitors. The monuments of Kazimierz are authentic and their originality is the real value of the city. The architecture is characterized by romance and charm.
The town market square is one of the most recognizable places in Kazimierz Dolny and a starting point for anyone visiting the town. This local Renaissance Square is usually full of life and filled with numerous stalls. The market square is surrounded on three sides by apartment buildings built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
In its golden years, Kazimierz, located on the trade route, was enriched by the grain trade. Today it is one of the most visited points of the city. In the center of the market stands a well with a black wooden roof - according to many tourists, this is the best place for a commemorative photo of Kazimierz Dolny.
