Street 9 May is located in the Soviet district of Krasnoyarsk.
The name of the street is dedicated to the holiday of the Great Victory of the Soviet people over fascism, one of the main holidays of Russia. According to statistics, Victory Day (Russia's Military Glory Day) is the most revered holiday for Russians, along with the New Year and personal birthday.
The street was named according to the decision of the executive committee of the Krasnoyarsk city council № 175 of 17.06.1981 on the naming of the street in the 5th microdistrict of the Northern residential area; the decision of the executive committee of the Krasnoyarsk city council № 396 of 15.10.1987 on the naming of the street in the North residential area between 1, 2, 3 from one side and 4, 5, 6 from the other side.
In 1981, the first four buildings on 9 May street were put into operation: these were five-storey panel buildings of Leningrad area planning. In subsequent years, the street was mostly built up with 97 series panel houses. Only in 2000 brick and monolith-brick residential buildings with more spacious apartments started to be built.
Street 9 May is a main street of general city purpose. Its length is four kilometers. Over its length is a wide eight lane street connecting Central and Soviet districts of the city.
The even side of the street is mainly built up with 97-series panel houses with standard apartments. The only exception is a sixteen-story panel "candlestick" under #60 "g" with 1,2,3-bedroom large-size apartments. There are only six brick buildings: two with standard layouts (Nos. 18 and 28), built in the 1990s, and four 10-story buildings (Nos. 18 "a," 20, 20 "a," 24) with oversized apartments.
On the odd side of the street, as opposed to the even, are more new residential buildings with a variety of layouts and modern landscaped courtyards. The area between Aviators Avenue and Vodopyanova Street is particularly interesting. Most of the houses here are built in brick and monolithic-brick construction. A modern school and kindergarten are in walking distance, and the proximity of "Planet" shopping mall and hypermarkets makes this location especially attractive. The ten story panel buildings #49, 51, 53, 55 are part of the popular "Green Town" residential complex. From Komsomolsky Avenue to the beginning of 9th May Street several new brick and monolith-brick houses with a wide variety of layouts are built.
