Webcam Luz. Praia da Luz Beach
Praia Da Luz is the city beach of the village of Luz, located almost on the EN125 highway, where the "Coast of Light" begins. These places were developed thousands of years ago and flourished thanks to fishing, which has been replaced by the tourism industry.
The Romans have left their footprints here - excavations with baths and fish processing tanks are available for viewing. On the cliff enclosing the beach from the west stands a seventeenth-century fort (now a restaurant with an excellent menu and panorama). To the east, the imposing black rock Rocha Negra of volcanic rock marks the border of the beach.
A vast, about a kilometer long strip of sand is framed by wind-whitened rocks, the cut of which shows a colorful layered cake with the inclusion of fossils of sea creatures and plants, cooked by time and the ocean.
For years, the Blue Flag is a constant attribute of the beach, which has all the amenities (wheelchair access, too) and plenty of activities (windsurfing, water skiing, diving, catamarans, etc.). A paved, palm-lined promenade with cafes and stores leads to the Nossa Senhora da Luz church. During the season, the promenade is crowded at night as well.
The shallow Praia da Luz is sheltered from the prevailing winds, but the ocean temperature is unpredictable due to shifting currents and the shore.
