Kondopoga is a city in the Russian Federation, in the Republic of Karelia. It is located on the shore of the Kondopoga Bay of Lake Onega, 54 kilometers from Petrozavodsk. Occupies an area of 11 square kilometers, the population - 31.5 thousand people.

Kondopoga traces its history back to the second half of the XVI century. The town's name in Karelian means "bear's corner". Since the XVIII century, high quality marble was mined here, which decorated the buildings of luxurious palaces of St. Petersburg. Today, Kondopoga is an important industrial center, whose pulp and paper mill produces a third of Russia's newsprint.

The town is beautiful and cultural, its architectural appearance harmoniously combines old buildings and buildings constructed between 1990s and 2000s. One of the main attractions of the city is the Church of the Assumption - a unique example of wooden architecture of the XVIII century. In 2001 two carillons of 18 and 23 bells were installed in Kondopoga, the music of which fascinates the residents and guests of the town. Kondopoga has an interesting museum of local history, the Palace of Arts, the House of Culture with an organ hall, the Kondopoga District Library and the Ice Palace.

Not far from the city there is the world famous museum-reserve Kizhi, Marcial Waters resort and a very beautiful waterfall Kivach, which is a sightseeing object within the Kivach reserve. Unique flavor, picturesque nature, historical and architectural monuments attract many tourists to Kondopoga. In addition, colorful festivals and annual festivals are held in the city.
