Zambujeira do Mar is a small town located in the southern part of the Alentejo on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, with a very popular beach that bears the same name.
Zambujeira do Mar's sparsely populated beach offers tourists a large parking lot, bar-restaurant, surfing school, bodyboard rentals, as well as masseurs and lifeguards. Visitors to the beach can enjoy incredible sunsets from the steep cliffs, appreciate the comfortable staircase descents and visit the small chapel built on the rock above the northern end of the beach.
As part of a nature park, the wild sandy beach of Zambogeira do Mar retains its natural charm. It is predominantly a Portuguese holiday destination in the summer. Most of them are surfers who are irresistibly drawn to the rough nature of the crystal clear waters of the beach.
The beach comes alive in August with a string of festivals and fairs. The international festival Festa do Sudoeste opens on the first Thursday of the month. During the four-day music marathon, rock bands from around the world and popular DJs perform nonstop.
