Webcam Catanzaro. Belcastro beach
Catanzaro is located in southern Italy, in the region of Calabria, which is in the very "toe of the Italian boot. This coastal city, washed by the waters of the Ionian Sea, is the capital of the region and the province of the same name and is widely known as a popular tourist center, which has not only excellent conditions for beach holidays, but also numerous museums, temples, palaces and other historical and cultural attractions.
There are several versions about the foundation of the city. According to one of them, the city, like many other cities in Calabria, was founded by Greek colonists. It may not have been a real town, but Greek settlements existed on the site of Catanzaro 100%, as evidenced by archaeological excavations. According to another version, the city was founded by two Byzantine generals, Cattaro and Dzaro, and actually took its present name from their names.
Catanzaro was situated in a very convenient place for defense. It was on a hill from which it was easy to control the surrounding roads. Therefore, all those who tried to establish themselves in the south of Italy had to take it.
