Vologda is a city in Russia, the administrative, cultural, transport and scientific center of the Vologda region, the center of the Vologda district, which is not included, having the status of a city of regional significance and forming the urban district of the city of Vologda.
Vologda is located 450 kilometers from Moscow and 650 kilometers from St. Petersburg. The population of the city is 306 593 people (2022). The area is 116 km2. The city is slightly inferior to Cherepovets, which is located 126 km to the west.
Chernyshevsky street was formed at the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, in accordance with the Plan of Vologda, approved by the Supreme Court in 1781. Originally this street was called Bolshaya Arkhangelskaya (the name was first mentioned in the Plan of Vologda of 1824), because it had an exit to Arkhangelsky trakt. At the end of the street, at the exit from the town, was located the Arkhangelskaya frontier post.
On October 16, 1918 Bolshaya Arkhangelskaya street was renamed into Chernyshevsky street.
