Inverness is a city located in the northeast of Scotland at the mouth of the River Ness, which flows from Loch Ness and flows into Moray Firth. The city takes its name from its location, in Gaelic Inverness means the mouth or confluence.

The area of the city is 20.7 km² and it is home to about 47 thousand people. The main attraction of the city is Inverness Castle - medieval fortress located on a rock, towering above the river Ness.

The first castle was built of wood in XI century, but it was destroyed in the wars. The present castle was built of red sandstone in 1835 by architect William Byrne.
