Krasnoye Selo - a small town in the Krasnoselsky district of St. Petersburg, located on the hills of Izhora uplands, 26 kilometers south-west of St. Petersburg.

The area of the settlement is 19.3 square kilometers.
In 1714, on the site of today's city by decree of Peter I the construction of a paper mill began, which in 2 years was put into operation.
In 1735 in Krasnoye Selo the Church of the Holy Trinity was built.

In the second half of the 18th century in the village were regularly held large military maneuvers, drills, displays.
In the mid-19th century in Krasnoye Selo was formed a large military training complex, an area of 210 square kilometers.

In February 1917 in the village formed Krasnoselsky Council, which consisted of factory workers and Bolshevik soldiers of the 176th Infantry Regiment.

In 1925 by decree of the authorities of the country Krasnoye Selo was transformed into a town.
Since September 1941 to January 1944 the city was occupied by German troops.
In April 1973 by order of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR Krasnoye Selo joined the newly formed Krasnoselsky district of Leningrad.

In 2005, Krasnoye Selo was given the status of an inner-city municipality of St. Petersburg.
In 2014 were solemn celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city.
