Webcam Poland Torun, Vistula River

Torun is a town in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. The medieval city, the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has many monuments of the Middle Ages and the 20th century (200 objects). The city is known for having preserved almost intact its medieval layout and many Gothic buildings, all of which were built of brick, including monumental churches, the town hall, and bourgeois houses. Important is the fact that Torun, unlike many other historical cities in Poland, escaped significant destruction during the Second World War. In particular, the Old Town remains intact, so all the architectural monuments are original, and not restored after the destruction. Interesting for tourists is the illumination of the Old Town at night. Numerous buildings and other structures, including the city walls along the avenue, are illuminated at night, creating an impressive effect.
