Amundsen - Scott is a United States Antarctic research station at the South Pole. Opened in January 1957. The station staff is 17-22 people. It is located on the surface of a glacial plateau at an altitude of 2800 m. The average annual air temperature at the station is -49.3°C, the minimum is -78.9°C, and the maximum is -14.7°C. The station conducts systematic aerometeorological and actinometric observations, a complex of geophysical studies, etc. The A.-S. station also serves as a base for intra-continental route research.
