Roatan is a popular tourist island in the Caribbean Sea, in the Islas de la Bahía group. It is part of Honduras. Besides excellent beaches, there are world-class diving and snorkeling. In recent years, cruise terminals have begun operating, which contributes to the development of tourism, but on the other hand makes Roatan more and more like the other Caribbean islands. The main town of Roatan Island is Coxen Hole, but there are other settlements: West End, French Harbor and Oak Ridge. The capital, Coxen Hole, is home to all kinds of Honduran government. The island is mostly populated by two major ethnic groups: the Garifuna and the Caracol. According to the 2011 census, there were 50,000 people on the island, and now there are more than 55,000. The inhabitants of the island are equally bilingual: Spanish and English.

In recent years, the island of Roatán has become increasingly popular among Honduran tourist regions. Serving vacationers is the islanders' first source of income. Approximately 300,000 to 400,000 tourists come here every year to relax and have fun amidst the Caribbean waves.
