MAGIC is a system of two ground-based telescopes owned by the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma. They are designed to detect Cherenkov radiation from showers of subatomic particles generated by high-energy gamma quanta (25 GeV-30 TeV). MAGIC is located at an altitude of 2200 m. above sea level, in ideal conditions for optical observations, limited mainly to lunar nights.
