Webcam Kostroma. Sovetskaya Square online in real time

Sovetskaya Square is located in the center of the city, connects with Susaninskaya Square and, gradually narrowing, passes into Sovetskaya Street.

It appeared according to the regular plan of Kostroma in 1781-1784. Before the Kostroma redevelopment in accordance with the general plan of 1781, in 1619 on its place there was located the New Town of the second Kostroma Kremlin, and before its construction - the town settlement. The building of the square, carried out in accordance with the regular plan in the late XVIII - the first quarter of the XIX century, remained almost intact.

In 1920s, the Church of Resurrection "on the square" (1744) and St. George Church (1772), located in the northern part of the square, were pulled down. A public garden was arranged in their place, another public garden was laid out round the water tower (built in 1870, superstructured in 1880), which was demolished in the 1920-ies. It was named Sovetskaya Square in 1918.

Among the most significant objects of Kostroma which are on the territory of Sovetskaya Ploshchad, there is a monument to Y. Dolgorukiy, the Prince of Rostov and Suzdal and Grand Duke of Kiev. The official opening of the monument took place in August 2003. Yuri Dolgoruky sitting on the throne, stretching out his right hand, showing the new city. In his left hand the prince has a sword, associated with a cross. On his head Dolgoruky wears the hat of Monomakh.
