Palmer Station is a permanent Antarctic station in the United States, located on Anvers Island, north of the Arctic Circle. It was built in 1968. Most of the research is carried out by marine biologists. In addition, the station has equipment for continuous monitoring of seismic and atmospheric phenomena. The radio tracks lightning throughout the Western Hemisphere.
