Loreto (Municipio de Loreto) is a city and municipality in Mexico, part of the state of Southern Baja California. In 1697, Loreto was founded by Juan Maria de Salvatierra.
The Gulf of California (Golfo de California), also known as the Sea of Cortes (Mar de Cortes) - the gulf that separates the California peninsula from the Mexican continental coast of the Pacific Ocean. The waters of the Gulf wash the coasts of the Mexican states of Baja California North, Baja California South, Sonora and Sinaloa.
