Zhemchuzhnaya street is the oldest street in Apatity, it appeared even before 1966, when Apatity was given the status of a town. It was named in honor of the river Zhemchuzhnaya, famous for its pearl fishery. Pearls have not been mined there for a long time, but the name of the street has remained. After the 90s, the houses at the end of the street were abandoned.
In 2013, the reconstruction of the street began, which ended in mid-2015.
The street is located in the Old Apatity neighborhood, running from northwest to southeast.
The street starts as a continuation of Kirov Street, going then along Zhemchuzhnaya Street. In the south of the street there is a bridge leading to the main part of town to Kozlov and Prigorodnaya streets. In the north, the street intersects with Gladyshev Street. It ends at the exit from the city, leading to the 1235 kilometer of the federal highway "Kola".
