Riga Avenue, named after the city of Riga, begins in Zavelichye just behind the bridge of the Soviet Army. Its part closest to the Velikaya River was called in pre-revolutionary times as Riga Street, which passed into the Pskov-Riga highway.
The time of occurrence of Riga street can be indicated approximately: in plan of 1821 it was not yet, but in plan of 1859 it was already listed. During Soviet times this highway was called Riga highway, and in 1979 the executive committee of the Pskov City Council has renamed it into Riga Avenue.
Today, Riga Avenue stretches far to the west.
