Gabrovo is a city in Central Bulgaria. It is an administrative and regional center.
The town is located on the northern slope of the Stara Planina Range, at Shipka Pass, on both banks of the Yantra River.
In the close vicinity in Uzana district is the geographical center of Bulgaria.
One of the most important north-south transport arteries crossing Bulgaria goes through Gabrovo.
Gabrovo is above all known for its craftsmen and its inhabitants are famous for their pragmatism and wit, therefore the only House of Humor and Satire in the world is situated there and a whole series of anecdotes about the Gabrovo people.
As it was centuries ago, the industry, especially the engineering industry, is actively developing in Gabrovo to this day. During the economic crisis of 2008 Gabrovo managed to maintain a relative stability compared to other Bulgarian cities and at the moment gradually begins to regain its economic power.
The traditional leading economic branches that shape the Gabrovo industry are mechanical engineering, electronics, production of tools, plastic products, textile, shoe making, cosmetics and others.
Today Gabrovo boasts a rich cultural program. The city hosts a festival of humor, a festival of comedy plays, an annual carnival, an exhibition of craftsmen and many others.
