Webcam Lembruch. Lake Dummer
Dümmer, or officially Dümmer See, is a large lake in southern Lower Saxony, Germany. It has an area of 13.5 km² and an average depth of one meter.
Dummer is a popular resort for water sports, but also an important habitat for waterfowl, located in an area particularly frequented by migratory birds. Much of its shoreline is protected by conservation areas.
The lake is crossed by the Hunt River, which exits the lake in several branches, the largest of which is not called the Hunt, but the Lon. Other branches are the Grawiede and the artificial Wätering, the canals Dorflohne, Schoddenlohne and Ompteda. Just 13 km north of the lake and 3 km north of Diefolz, all branches of the Hunt are reunited.
The fish-filled lake, which is also a breeding and resting place for birds, has a variety of flora and fauna, so the western and southern shores of the lake are largely protected.
Although the lake averages only about a meter deep, very rich water sources and the Hunt itself provide relatively constant water levels. Previously, these springs, combined with regular heavy rains, caused flooding, so in the 1940s they began building levees around the lake.
