Caxias do Sul is a municipality in Brazil, part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is part of the meso-region of the Northeast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is part of the Caxias do Sul economic-statistical micro-region and the Serra Gausha urban agglomeration. The population is 399,038 as of 2007 and 470,223 as of 2014. It covers an area of 1,643.913 km². The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics estimated the population at 474,853 in 2015.
