Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia. It forms the urban community of Ljubljana, divided into 17 districts. It is located in the central part of Slovenia, in the middle of the Ljubljana Basin between the marshes of the Ljubljana Barja in the south and the Ljubljana Field in the north; south of the Karavanke Mountains and east of the Julian Alps; on the Ljubljana River, about 10 km from its confluence with the Sava. The distance to the Adriatic Sea (Trieste) in a straight line is about 65 km.
