The exact age of Pskov is unknown. The date of the founding of the city is considered 903 - its first mentioning in chronicles. The city grew and developed around a mighty fortress, built on a steep hill at the confluence of the rivers Pskov and Velikaya. There are no analogues of this ancient fortification on the territory of modern Russia.
