Isafjordur (Eskifjordur) is a city in the north — west of Iceland. It is the largest city on the Westfirdir peninsula. The old name of Isafjordur is Eiri (Sand Spit).
Isafjordur lies on the shore of the Skjutul Fjord, one of the branches of the largest fjord in Vestfirdir — Isafjardardup. The city is the commercial and economic center of the Westfirdir region. The area of Isafjordur is constantly increasing with the help of drainage and sand filling of the fjord water area.
