Webcam Zichron-Yaakov. City beach
Zichron Yaacov is a large settlement in Israel on the Carmel Ridge near Haifa.
It is one of the first Jewish settlements in Eretz Yisrael (Land of Israel) in modern history, founded in 1882 with money from Baron Rothschild and named in memory of his father James. Jews from Romania settled here and began to grow grapes and make wine. Zichron Yaacov is the birthplace of Israeli winemaking.
Old houses with tiled roofs and farmyards are left on the main street of the town.
The main tourist sites are the Carmel Mizrahi Winery (a tour of the cellars and wine tasting) and the Gan ha-Nadiv ("Garden of the Generous"), dedicated to the memory of Baron Rothschild.
