In Dutch the word Peterhof means Peter's Court, later it was remade in German as Peterhof. Over time, Peterhof began to turn into a summer residence of the imperial court. The leading architects of the time took part in the design of its many palaces. Very soon two estates arose in the neighborhood of the residence, they grew and were equipped, and already in 1762 Peterhof receives the status of the city. During the Great Patriotic War the city was occupied by German troops. His numerous palaces were completely looted, badly damaged, from them remained only the walls, the parks were cut down. Almost immediately after the war began restoration of this amazing palace and park complex, restoration of the palaces' interiors was carried out by the best craftsmen in the country. In 1964, the Grand Palace received the first guided tours.
