Webcam San Sebastian. La Concha Beach
La Concha is the main beach of the city of San Sebastian and one of the most famous and beautiful urban beaches in Europe, stretching along the coast of the bay of the same name. The name La Concha means "shell" in Spanish - this is the shape of this amazingly beautiful bay. At one end of it rises Mount Urgul, and at the other - Mount Igueldo.
La Concha beach is located in the heart of the town between the fishing port and Pico del Loro (Parrot's Beak), a small rocky promontory that disappears under the water at high tide. Behind Pico del Loro is another town beach, Ondaretta, which ends at the foot of Mount Igueldo.
Without a doubt, La Concha is the most famous and photographed beach of the Basque Country. It is 1,350 meters long and about 40 meters wide (the size of the beach is strongly influenced by the Atlantic tides). Here you can not only sunbathe and swim, but also engage in a variety of sports, including surfing, windsurfing, kayaking and beach soccer. There are also several water attractions for children.
The beach is surrounded by mountains and is well protected from the wind and high waves, making it safe even for small children. The beach promenade is always crowded, as is the bike path that runs parallel to it. From the beach, you can see Santa Clara Island in the bay and the mountains of Urgul and Igueldo. You can reach the island by swimming, boat or kayak - it has a small but very popular beach.
The sandy beach of La Concha is known for being the place to be for year-round swimmers. Although the waters of the Atlantic Ocean can be quite chilly, this does not stop the locals - there is always - even in winter! - always someone is splashing in the waves.
In the 19th century, this beach on the advice of her doctor came to bathe Queen Isabella II, which is why San Sebastian became the summer royal residence. Other royal families from all over Europe also visited this place. Here you can still see the Palacio de Miramar palace and explore its gardens.
Another attraction of La Concha Beach is the street lights made of small sculptures, which are awarded as prizes at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
