Webcam Tryavna. City Garden
The town of Tryavna lies in the southeast of the Gabrovsk region, 18 kilometers from its administrative center.
There is a legend that the founders of the city were the inhabitants of the old capital, who survived after it was captured by the enemy army. In 1798 Tryavna suffered heavily from the Ottoman Bashi-Buzuzuk, who looted and destroyed many homes. Later the city was rebuilt.
Tryavna is unique because of its numerous objects of cultural heritage. The town is mostly built up of two-storied houses with large bay windows and orieled houses with decorative trim. Many of them have open terraces with stone benches and spacious yards covered with greenery.
Tryavna has long been famous for its architects, particularly Ivan Buchukavets and Dimitar Oshanets. In 1804, they decorated the interiors of the Daskal house, now the Museum of Carvings and Iconography. The ceilings in some rooms are decorated with carvings. This craft began to develop in the city in the 18th century.
Local carving masters worked in different styles - Renaissance, Rococo, classicist and baroque. In some of their creations, they used a combination of different styles. It is believed that the founder of Tryavna carver school was Vikenty Karchev, who in the 17th century studied the basics of painting in the Athos monasteries. It was he who became the ancestor of the woodcarvers in Tryavna.
