The city of Marsala is located on the southern part of the west coast of the island of Sicily, it is also a major seaport of Sicily. It is known for the production of the sweet wine of the same name, which began to be produced on an industrial scale in 1773.
The main attractions in Marsala are the ruins of the ancient city of Lilibei and the palazzo VII of April in the town's main square, Piazza della Repubblica, built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
