Pitkyaranta is a small town in the southern part of the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia.
It stretches in a narrow strip along the northeastern shore of Lake Ladoga, where rocky mountains give way to sand and pebble beaches studded with bizarrely shaped boulders. The past of Pitkäranta, whose name means "Long shore" in Finnish, is inseparably linked with the history of three states - Russia, Sweden and Finland.
Unfortunately, monuments of antiquity have not remained here, but Pitkäranta is widely known to travelers for the beauty of the surrounding magnificent unspoiled nature.
