San Isidro is a city in Greater Buenos Aires. It is located 27.9 km from the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The city is considered the richest district of the province.
The center of San Isidro is a historic district with cobblestone streets and old single-story houses. In the heart of Mitre Square is the neo-Gothic San Isidro Cathedral, built in 1898. On the sloping square, where the Rugby Museum recently opened, there is an antiques and crafts fair.
The square leads down to the Rio de la Plata, where the park is popular with mate lovers and tourists. The city is also known as the National Rugby Capital, the cradle of many important players and the host of the national rugby union derby between CASI and San Isidro.
San Isidro is served by two rail lines: the Mitre Line and the Train de la Costa (Coast Train). The latter station is an old building from 1891, designed in the style of British train stations. There is also a shopping arcade, movie theater and restaurants. The station is located just 200 meters from the Cathedral of San Isidro.
In 2007, San Isidro celebrated its 300th anniversary with various celebrations at the Hippodrome and elsewhere. The settlement was first registered in 1784 as Alcaldia de la Hermandad and became a provincial municipality in 1850.
