Webcam Petrozavodsk. Lenin Avenue (Karelia) in real time
Lenin Avenue is the main street of Petrozavodsk. It runs through the historical center of the city from the Railway Station to the embankment of Lake Onega. For many tourists visiting Karelia, it is Lenin Avenue that becomes the first place they see in the capital of the republic.
The length of the avenue is 1.8 kilometers, but at the same time the street is not the longest in the city. Nevertheless, it remains the administrative center of the capital: there are many government buildings of national and local significance, including the Administration of Petrozavodsk and the Government of Karelia.
The street was renamed several times until in October 1918 it got its present name. Until 1912 it was called Svyatonavolotskaya, and later Borodinskaya. It was also called Karelian street during the occupation of the city by the Finns during the Great Patriotic War.
Like many other central streets of the cities, in the Soviet period, it was named in honor of the leader of the Great October Revolution. There is also a square of the same name with the largest monument to Vladimir Ilyich in Karelia.
