The diameter of the base of the volcano is 45-50 kilometers, the total area is at least 1300 square kilometers. The lower slopes of the Shiveluch volcano up to a height of 750 meters are covered with forests of stone birch and shrubby thickets of cedar elfin, above are meadows, closer to the top-a vegetation-free lava-ash surface.
