Webcam Ante-Saint-Andre. View of the Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is known to many for its unique profile. Even those who have never been to the Italian-Swiss border recognize it from postcards and movies. Its almost regular triangular profile is the prototype of the Toblerone chocolate bar and some other inventions. Not surprisingly, several million tourists flock to this beautiful peak every year. Some come in the winter to go skiing. Others prefer the scenic beauty of the foothills and hiking. Others seek to conquer the impregnable peaks. No traveler leaves here disappointed.

The picturesque highlands are located in the massif of the Pennine Alps, right on the border between the two countries. In the south the slopes belong to Italy, and the northern, western and eastern sides of the mountain are in Switzerland. The peak is located at some distance from the other elevations, which allows you to admire the mountain among the plains and lower hills. The peak of Mount Matterhorn reaches a height of 4.478 km. She is rocky and quite steep, which has long prevented climbers to conquer it.

If you look closely, you can see that the mountain has two peaks. They are located at a distance of almost 100 meters from each other. Moreover, the boundary passes between them, so the tops are called: Swiss and Italian. The latter is one meter lower than its neighbor.
