Sottomarina is a modern seaside resort in northeastern Italy. It is located in the southern part of the Venice Lagoon.
By nature, Sottomarina is an island between the Adriatic Sea, the Venetian Lagoon and the mouth of the river Brenta.
The island is connected by bridges to the small fishing village of Chioggia, which is also on the island. Chioggia is an old town. It has a historic center with churches and old buildings, and together with Sottomarina it is a great place for a summer vacation. From Sottomarina it is also easy to reach Venice.
In Sottomarina there is no traditional resort promenade. The road is fenced off from the sea by rows of hotels, stores and parking lots. In order to walk along the sea you must go to the end of the beach, to the place where the Venice Lagoon begins. It is quite a lively place, which fishermen also like to use.
