Mar del Plata is a small town located about 400 kilometers south of the capital. It is primarily a center for fishing, and is notable for its large size. However, there are quite a few sandy beaches in the center, including the waterfront, one of them is Playa Grande (big beach) somewhat north of the main port. The other is a long spit that begins as far back as the breakwater, limiting the fishing port, and continues south of it for about five kilometers.
A single beach complex has several names, in fact, they are just passing beaches one into another without clear boundaries: Playa El Angel (Angel beach), Playa De Marce Puerto (port beach), Ibiza, Playa Mariano (sea beach), Playa Guillermo (money beach), Playa Beach (both words are translated as Beach), South Beach and a number of others.
Originally, there was a single sandy beach along the entire coast. However, in the center of the future city, where it was more convenient place, there were first piers, a port. Over time, it expanded, deepened, set up port equipment. In view of this, the sandy coast was cut artificially.
The entire long edge that runs along the entire city is of the same composition.
The sand is mostly yellow-gray, somewhat muddy yellow-gray. Closer to the sea water the color a little pales, becomes more gray. Also closer to the sea the size of grains of sand becomes appreciably smaller. Closer to the city itself and the green stripe the grains of sand become larger, the sand is about half pebble. The breakwater on the north side of El Angel beach is composed of large stones covered with sand. Therefore, closer to the sea, there can be a variety of rocks, including - the rocky ground, which can hurt you.
The depth of the sea along the coast is uneven. Closer to the artificial breakwater (north of El Angel Beach), the depth can be a couple of meters near the shore. However, the most popular Playa De Marce Puetro has comfortable depths. You can not feel the bottom and not see only about fifty meters from the shore. However, so far to swim unlikely anyone should - the open sea and the ocean can have strong undercurrents.
This is also why the beach is not the most pleasant place for bathing because of the wind changes in the low season.
The beach is very popular. It is located directly in the city, is its seafront. Along the streets overlooking it there are a lot of cafes, as well as other entertainment venues. Much of the architecture closer to the beach is also characterized by old buildings of Victorian and Creole type, which also attracts both locals and tourists.
