Frederikshavn is a Danish town in the municipality of Frederikshavn, North Jutland Region, on the northeast coast of the Jutland Peninsula in northern Denmark. Its name translates as Frederik's Harbor. Originally it was called Fladstrand.

The city has a population of 23,124 (as of January 1, 2020) and is an important transportation port with a ferry connection to Gothenburg in Sweden. The city is known for fishing, fishing and industrial ports.

Frederikshavn's oldest building, Fiskerklyngen, dates to the mid-16th century, but there are now houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The first mention of the settlement is in a letter dated March 13, 1572, found in the written books of the Danish Chancellery. It was a fishing village, a trading place and a crossing point with Norway.

The old church of Fladstrand was built between 1686 and 1690. On December 31, 1700, a tax of 500 rigsdaler was imposed on the town, indicating a fair amount of trade.
During the Great Northern War from 1700 to 1721, there was an increase in activity in the town as travelers to Norway departed from here - the route through Sweden was cut. After the war, activity gradually subsided.

The Royal Naval Pilot had been in town since 1733 after King Christian VI was forced to stay in town due to bad weather during his voyage to Norway.

In 1735 the town was described as a village that supported itself by fishing and sage outcropping and some agriculture.
