Funchal is the main city and seaport of the island of Madeira (Portugal). It is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, and is also the administrative center of the district of the same name (municipality), which is bordered on the north by the municipality of Santana, on the northeast by the municipality of Machico, on the east by the municipality of Santa Cruz, on the south by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the municipality of Camara di Lobos.
