Webcam Vologda. Lenin Street, Lermontov Street
Lenin Street in Vologda is located in the historic district of the city, called Nizhny Posad. The street was named in honor of Vladimir Lenin. It connects Kirov Square and Revolution Square.
Initially, Lenin Street was called Kirillovskaya. Founded in the XVI century, Kirillovskaya Street in the XVII century, the whole social center began to move to the Lower Town Hall and the street appear first civilian stone buildings.
On the lower floors of these buildings warehouses were located, and on the upper floors lived the servants. At the end of the XVIII century and at the beginning of the XIX century the offices, a provincial gymnasium, a religious seminary and the governor's house were built. Many rich citizens, as well as rich merchants, settled on the street. At that time this street was all cobblestone, and there were also wooden bridges.
In October 1918 Kirillovskaya street was renamed Sovetskaya. And only in 1956 became Lenin Street, the first city object named in his honor.
