Online camera Orenburg. Kazan Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God
The magnificent Kazan Cathedral in Orenburg was erected at the end of the 19th century. In the 1920s the church was destroyed. Instead of reviving the former cathedral, they built another - among the modern high-rise buildings in a residential area on the outskirts of the city. In 2016, the temple was consecrated.
The new Kazan Cathedral is not a copy of the old one, but rather a paraphrase of it. In the cross-domed building is much more signs of Old Russian architecture. The red-brick walls are built in two tiers, their surfaces are decorated with rustication, pilasters, arches, friezes. The decor elements are also made of brick, but of a slightly different tint, which adds unusual lightness to the structure. Seventeen gilded onion-heads soar above it; the central dome rests on a powerful light drum; the windows are allocated by graceful corbel arches. The height of the building is 55 m, which, by the way, is more than its predecessor. The prayer hall is designed for 2000 parishioners.
The upper temple of the cathedral is consecrated in the name of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God, the lower - the Blachernae icon. Their walls shine with whiteness, the iconostasis is still very modest, the design of the interior space is just beginning.
Next to the Kazan Cathedral there are a water-sanctuary chapel and the Church of the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God. The complex is surrounded by a beautiful park and looks wonderful against a background of modern high-rise buildings. There are services going on in the temples and a Sunday school is planned to open.
